HISTORICAL TIMELINE
Alberton, Maryland
Alberton was founded in 1839 by James S. Gray who owned a mill company in Connecticut. 820 acres were used to build the factory and mill for Gray.
In 1866 and 1868, flooding took out the mill.
In 1879, the Victorian Gray Memorial Church would be created.
In 1893, St. Alban's Episcopal Church would be established.
C.R. Daniels
In 1938, C.R. Daniels bought the town to expand his growing company. This included the nearby complex of Elysville.
During the 1950s and 1960s, the company expanded again for manufacturing.
Hurricane Agnes
In 1972, Hurricane Agnes hit the East Coast. The damage it caused completely destroyed the town of Daniels and forced the manufacturing company to relocate to Ellicott City and to Tennessee.
Preservation Today
Today, all that is left of the town is the ruins of its churches, a graveyard, the old mill, and the dam.
It is abandoned with only a few trails and fishing in the nearby creek to pull local residents back to the old mill town.
